- Near public places. Many entertainment complexes or business centers are ready to give free places for their visitors. Thing is, you can park your car there for a fee.
The generally accepted unspoken rules of traffic in Thailand:
- When you are about to turn, always look at all adjacent sidewalks and curbs. Many bikers are ready to shorten their path riding there.
- Short-term switching of the dipped beam to the high beam of an oncoming car indicate, that the driver is ready to move into the oncoming lane. Confusion about this signal is recognized as the most common cause of accidents in Phuket.
- The horn is used here as a warning that you are not ready to brake and give way. It is always better to let such drivers pass.
The measures to prevent drunk driving are interesting. Fines differ depending on the time of day. If the violator is found during working hours, there will be a fine of 10,000 baht. During non-working hours, the punishment will be more severe – the driver will be asked to drive to the station, from where he can leave only after the full payment of the fine – up to 20,000 baht. A repeated similar violation can lead to a prison term of up to 6 months, and it is better not to go to prison in Thailand.
